The Preaching of the King: Eternal Treasures & Earthly Anxieties

In this message, Jesus will speak to the issue that seeks to cause most of the worry in our lives. Instead of our worry he offers up better currency for us to invest and rest in.

The Preaching of the King: Praying & Fasting

In this message, Jesus will address the last of three areas of practical worship where we are prone to seek the applause of man: that of praying and fasting. In contrast to the glory-seeking practices of the Pharisees & Gentiles, Jesus will show us a better way to pray and fast: in secret, out of the desire for intimacy with God and dependence upon His Kingdom purposes.

The Preaching of the King: Giving

In this message, Jesus will begin addressing the first of three areas of practical worship where we are prone to seek the applause of man: that of giving to the needy. In contrast to the glory-seeking practices of the Pharisees, Jesus will show us a better way to give: out of the abundance of grace given to us by God, leveraged for His glory and the good of others.

In this message, Jesus will address how we see and respond to those who seek to take from us or cause us harm.

The Preaching of the King: Divorce & Oaths

In this message, Jesus will address two additional issues from God's law that the Scribes and Pharisees had twisted and found means to avoid keeping: that of marriage/divorce and promise-keeping. Jesus will show the true intent of these laws, in such a way that drives us to Him for His mercy, forgiveness, and righteousness.

 

Scripture: Matthew 5:31-37

The Preaching of the King: Anger & Lust

In this message, Jesus will begin addressing the first two of six areas in God's law that the Pharisees and Scribes had twisted into a means of external righteousness: that of murder & adultery. Jesus will show the true root of unrighteousness behind those sins, that exists in all of our hearts: that of anger & lust. In doing so, He will point us to Himself, as our only means of forgiveness and true righteousness.

The Preaching of the King: True Righteousness

In this message, Jesus will proclaim how His teachings were not at odds with the Law of God; but rather, the teachings of the pharisees were. In doing so, we will see how Jesus is the fulfillment of Law, on our behalf, and the very means by which we derive our righteousness before God, apart from our own works.

In this message, we'll look at what many have described as Jesus' epilogue to the Beatitudes; whereby Jesus will utilize two prominent metaphors to illustrate our kingdom identity and activity that make us distinct in the world: that of "Salt" & "Light."
